Seeking Piet the Minimalist #1 to #3 Digital Artwork Series

Seeking Piet the Minimalist #1

With a piece of old canvas (landscape work) from the past and some little digital work plus the music of  Yusef Lateef playing The Plum Blossom in the background came this piece, a homage to Piet Mondrian.

Used a scanner to make a jpeg of the landscape…. then digitally blurred it out with software ACDSee. From there just let the creative process take over and played in the sandpit of life.

This being the first attempt at the motifs used here as a digital artwork, I may look into it deeper. Not quite sure if it works…. will see.
The most potent muse of all is our inner child. – Stephen Nachmanovitch

Seeking Piet the Minimalist #2

Using the same techniques as in Seeking Piet the Minimalist #1 this second go at creating a digital artwork has some promise. Still not hundred percent convinced, but I don’t give up that easy, this could work.

Second attempt definitely visually more appealing to me as the first attempt. As it should be. Do like the push and pull effect with the blurred images in relation with the unblurred.

Music still Yusef Lateef but the tune is titled “Yesterdays”, great flute playing by Yusef.

Seeking Piet the Minimalist #3

Now this looks promising. Music in background changed completely too…. can it be? From first attempt to the second Seeking Piet the Minimalist #2, Piet Mondrian is getting closer to be found. Should I continue to seek?

YES… this now has potential to become part of my digital artwork series to see how far one can go with it. Note, potential… always the doubt. And the music…. the acclaimed Tokyo String Quartet performing Beethoven’s exhilarating String Quartet in F Major.

The major changes I made regarding the other two “Seeking Piet the Minimalist” was two of the motifs were converted into negatives. The larger bottom section and the indentation color swatch. NOW… seeing how this turned out will make it more challenging to improve on this one.

Will either stay with the format or have to begin a whole new approach to this series/theme. Playing in the sandpit of life is FUN.

Curtain Call – #1 to #5 Digital ArtWork – Dream Series

SHORT EXPLANATION: Dreams between the age of five and seven. As the first morning light filtered through the bedroom windows, in a semi daze slipping in and out of sleep, an overwhelming fear of an entity would enter my space.

Close by and ever menacingly behind and at times hovering over me, it made breathing next to impossible, so I would lay there feigning death. Then with every ounce of power for one so young and scared, I had to muster the courage to open my eyes, having told myself this would make the frightening being disappear: only for my eyes to fall upon…. the curtains.

This is when the curtains came alive with horrific battles and wars on land, sea and skies. My own horror movie. And all before breakfast!!

 Curtain Call – #5 – Dream Series

The idea of a series titled Curtain Call regarding my dreams between the age of five and seven have now come to fruition thanks to the words of Robin Evans, (see below). First my thoughts were to do it as a series of drawings then for a change from being in the studio I challenged myself to do these as digital art pieces. It took four hours to complete both… part drawing, painting then some tweaking with digital tool called ACDSee…. a Triptych within a Diptych. May continue this series with only ONE image staying constant, the other two reflecting the dreams.
…while the body remains the central figure in the dream these fear glitches will keep happening. Leave the fray, look at the battlefield from overhead and as you do this all the ripples will flatten out, it IS as it has always been. – Robin Evans
To some, these images may appear to be dark and nightmarish for someone at that age…. hence the curtains, for so many years unavoidable.

Working on an ART video - "Silence Like A Cancer Grows"

"The Sound of Silence", originally "The Sounds of Silence", is a song by the American music duo Simon & Garfunkel.

From an iconic song... Silence Like A Cancer Grows - art meets music or music meets art... it matters not.... my interpretation coming soon. But the inspiration came not from the Simon & Garfunkel version... BUT FROM the group named Disturbed - The Sound of Silence [Official Music Video]... below:

THE SOUND OF SILENCE by DISTURBED.

POWERFUL....yet the original and this one the lyrics have the same message. Just depends on your current state of of mind.

Hidden behind merciful shadows, beyond the cruel daylight, living to hunt and kill, we are the… damned children of the night. Dragging our immune existence through thousands of centuries and from dusk to dawn we suffer from our immortality.

Hosts contaminate our tombs and crosses burn our skin, you can kill us a thousand times, but we’re the ones, who will always remain … – In Pain … In Pain:
“I’m the resurrection-man, who steals his own corpse and abducts himself to the beloved catacombs and vaults”.

Death and decay, cadaverous smell, for us there’s neither heaven, nor is there a hell, and only the stigmata could be able to betray the sombre existence of the former days.

After the dead Lover’s kiss you fall into a dream, but with your second birth you’re a prince in our mournful realm. By day, when a million suns are killing with their shine, the cold, dark crypts are saving me … and mine.

Death and decay, cadaverous smell, for us there’s neither heaven, nor is there a hell, and only the stigmata could be able to betray the sombre existence of the former days …

Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. It is far better take things as they come along with patience and *equanimity.Carl Jung
*Equanimity (Latin: æquanimitas having an even mind; aequus even animus mind/soul) is a state of psychological stability and composure which is undisturbed by experience of or exposure to emotions, pain, or other phenomena that may cause others to lose the balance of their mind.

Ancient Traveler #1 & #2 - Digital Artwork - Music by Carlos Nakai "Earth Spirit"

Ancient Traveler #1

Combining torn paintings, drawing, collage and tweaking with digital software the use of a scanner and with the music of Carlos Nakai playing in the background, Ancient Traveler #1 and #2 came about from a starting point of a blank page/screen so to speak.

Just allow the eye, hand and ear to trust ones gained skills and you will make the invisible, visible.

When teaching I used to say to my students learn all you can regarding the making of art... then throw it all out the window. And by way of working honestly, magically like an alchemist maybe a perfect certain object/image will be created.
